Introducing our beautiful new Angel of the North Necklace. This stunning necklace is made from transparent acrylic, you can buy it in a light blue or pink acrylic and there is an inlaid mother of pearl heart in the center of the angel.
This statement piece of jewellery is laser etched with a colliery map of the Teams Colliery. This relates to the site where the Angel of the North stands. The artist (Sir Antony Gormley) who created the angel says “I wanted to make an object that would be a focus of hope at a painful time of transition for the people of the North East, abandoned in the gap between the industrial and the information ages.” As I have lived in the North East of England for the same amount of time as The Angel I have seen personally how the angel has become a symbol of hope to local people.
And it has become a celebration of the industrial heritage of this part of the UK. The angel is visited by 150,000 people ever year. And it is estimated that 33 million people see it form the A1 as they drive past it every year too. It is one of the most successful public artworks in the UK.
My necklace is a tribute to this amazing artwork and the industrial heritage of the North East of England. And ultimately it is a thank you to the place I have called home for the last 21 years.
