British Made Gifts – why shopping local is great for us all

November 15, 2022 3 min read

British-made gifts are at the very heart of everything we do here at Powder Butterfly.

That’s why I work so hard to make sure the British made gifts I design are top-quality products at the best prices. This year it no exception. With the cost-of-living crisis looming large for everyone, I’m doing my best to deliver the best quality gifts at a price that isn't too hard to handle.

British made gifts

If you’re buying from the UK, I promise that all our products are designed, made and shipped from the UK. And that’s hugely important for me. Because I want my business to be a sustainable as possible, with the lowest carbon footprint I can manage.

And when you buy a British made gift from Powder Butterfly, you’re not only supporting me and my family, but also the families of the amazing range of partners I work with. From suppliers and fulfilment companies to the two charities I currently support with my Combat Stress and Pride UK collections.

Did you know that, for every £1 you spend in your local, independent shops, 63p goes straight back into the local economy – I find that statistic absolutely staggering. It’s also why I work so hard to source materials and partners that are sustainable, ethical and downright awesome to work with.

Why buy British made gifts?

There are so many reasons why you should choose British made gifts this Christmas and all year round.

  1. The quality of the merchandise – you’ll often find the quality of British made gifts is absolutely brilliant. Made by skilled crafts people, they’ll generally be built to last.
  2. Helping the British economy – and let’s face it, it can use all the help it can get at the moment. When buying British made gifts like those from Powder Butterfly, you’re helping support the passing on of incredible skills from generation to generation. Let’s not lose these skills!
  3. Reducing your carbon footprint– When you buy British made gifts, they have a much smaller carbon footprint that products made elsewhere in the world. Even our Made With Love collection is manufactured in the country of purchase to avoid an excessive carbon footprint.

Buy British made gifts this Black Friday

Black Friday falls on 25 November this year. Traditionally a great time for saving some money in the run up to Christmas, here at Powder Butterfly I’ve chosen to celebrate a different kind of Friday – Colour Friday.

Set up by Holly & Co, founder of Not On The High Street, Colour Friday is designed to celebrate small businesses. As an antidote to Black Friday, Colour Friday celebrates the colour and creativity of independent businesses around the UK.

As a result of this celebration, I’ve designed and launched the first Powder Butterfly calendar.

British made gifts - Powder Butterfly 2023 calendar

My 2023 calendar is the first colourful, non-charity collaboration product I’ve made - and I couldn’t be more proud!

It features 12 beautiful, contemporary pieces of artwork, based on North East landmarks, with stunning colourful skies in the background. It has to be seen to be believed and I’d love to spread the date-loving, colour-celebrating joy to anyone who will listen!

Be one of the first to take a look at my colourful calendar!

And while you’re there, why not browse my online store for any other Christmas gifts you can’t live without?

Will you go black or colour this Friday 25 November?
